Renown cellist Annie Jacobs-Perkins returns to Binghamton to perform Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra in “Creations of Fire,” part of the orchestra’s 70th Anniversary Classical Series on November 15, 7:30 p.m. at the Broome County Forum Theatre.
The program also features two Beethoven works: the Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus and Symphony No. 8 in F Major.

Since her 2023 debut with the Philharmonic, Jacobs-Perkins has performed at venues including London’s Wigmore Hall and the Sydney Opera House, and recorded an album with British label Champs Hill. She performs Shostakovich’s First Cello Concerto, widely regarded as one of the most technically demanding works written for the instrument.
Jacobs-Perkins won first prize at the 2024 Buchet International Cello Competition and the 2023 Pierre Fournier Award. She is currently Artist-in-Residence at the Austin Chamber Music Center in Texas.
She performs as a cellist with Trio Brontë, a Berlin-based piano trio that has won first prize at the 2025 Schubert und die Musik der Moderne Competition and the 2023 Ilmari Hannikainen International Piano Chamber Music Competition, and second prize at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Competition. Jacobs-Perkins has also performed in music festivals, frequently collaborated with artists such as Miriam Fried and Anthony Marwood, and venues like Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.
Attendees are invited to a Pre-Concert Chat at 6:30 p.m. about the music of Shostakovich, “Irony in the Age of Iron,” by the Philharmonic’s Director of Education and Community Engagement Dr. Julia Grella O’Connell.
Tickets for “Creations of Fire” range from $29 – $73, and kids 17 and under are free. For more information, click the link here.
