Wall to Wall Stevie Wonder at Symphony Space on November 8

Bringing together dozens of exceptional artists to celebrate and interpret Stevie Wonder’s iconic body of work, Symphony Space presents Wall to Wall Stevie Wonder. This season’s edition of the organization’s beloved annual marathon tributes, offers a free day of nonstop Wonder features artists from a vast array of musical genres and disciplines reimagining Stevie Wonder’s songbook, from soul, R&B, hip-hop, world music, gospel, and jazz to dance, original poetry, and more.

The monumental celebration offers deep dives into classic albums, opportunities to discover lesser-known gems, and a grand finale in which a powerhouse ensemble performs some of Wonder’s most unforgettable songs.

Symphony Space

Symphony Space is a multi-disciplinary performing arts center where adventurous programming, presented in a uniquely warm and welcoming environment, forges indelible relationships between artists and audiences.

Wall to Wall Stevie Wonder curator Monique Martin, who previously collaborated with Symphony Space on Wall to Wall Prince (2024) and Wall to Wall Women of Soul (2023), says of this year’s event, “To use Nina Simone’s quote, ‘An artist’s duty is to reflect the times.’ Stevie Wonder’s music is timely as well as timeless. He has always spoken about peace and unity and bringing the world together through music, joy, and love. I can’t think of an artist whose songs and message more perfectly meet the moment.”

Wall to Wall Stevie Wonder unfolds in four distinct sections. Kicking off the day is Spirituals & Love Ballads, celebrating heart, faith, and Wonder’s roots in gospel and ballads (2-4pm). This first segment welcomes to the stage the choir Songs Of Solomon Inspirational Ensemble; dynamic dance theater company Jamel Gaines Creative Outlet, with singer Marcelle Davies-Lashley; and the acclaimed Guinea-born, New York-based singer-songwriter Natu Camara, performing with her band. Then, Vicky Casis offersa rousing DJ set as a bridge to the second portion of the marathon.

Next up is Social Justice Stevie, an electrifying tribute to Wonder’s fearless work as a musical activist and voice for justice (4-6pm). It includes rap artist JSWISS and DJ Vicky Casis, with Kyle Miles (bass) and Amma Whatt (vocalist); a stirring first-time collaboration between Chilean jazz vocalist Claudia Acuña and Natu Camara; Broadway vocalist and actor Jared Wayne Gladly; and contortion and acrobatics from Hybrid Movement CompanyDJ Spinna—known for his own Stevie Wonder tribute parties—performs a set carrying the festivities into the next section: Stevie Reimagined.

In Stevie Reimagined (6-8pm), audiences are treated to poetic homage, global rhythms, and soaring interpretations. Spoken word artist JRose shares an original poem she wrote, inspired by Wonder’s songs. Stevie Reimagined also features contributions by Kim Hill, the soul musician who was an early member of the Black Eyed Peas; artists from The Soapbox Presents, the vital platform for Black and Brown creative expression, cultural preservation, and community empowerment; and DJ Spinna returning to fill the room with unstoppable energy as the evening enters its blowout final stage.

Wall to Wall Stevie Wonder concludes with a sensational grand finale, The Hitmaker (8-10pm), reveling in some of the greatest hits of Wonder’s towering career. It begins with a riveting set from esteemed jazz pianist Matthew Whitaker, who, when he was 10 years old, opened the ceremony inducting Wonder into Apollo Theater’s Hall of Fame. Interdisciplinary artist Havanna Fisher performs original choreography to an a cappella performance by vocalist Myles JosephhCraig Harris & The Nation of Imagination end the evening with a big-band bang.

Wall to Wall Stevie Wonder takes place Saturday, November 8, from 2-10pm in Symphony Space’s Peter Jay Sharp Theater. Audiences are welcome to drop in for a bit or stay a while. Tickets are free, RSVP here.
