Founded in 1932 as the Dutchess County Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hudson Valley Symphony Orchestra has a long history of bringing musical inspiration to people of all ages throughout the Hudson Valley. Under various forms, the orchestra has served the communities in Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, and surrounding counties.

In 1959, Claude Monteux brought the musicians to prominence, organized as the Hudson Valley Philharmonic Society, Inc., a fully professional regional orchestra performing Classics and Pops concerts and bringing educational programs to area school children. In 2024, the orchestra reorganized once again and became self-managed as the Hudson Valley Symphony Orchestra, Inc. Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor André Raphel leads the HVSO as it begins this new chapter.

“Having the Hudson Valley Symphony Orchestra perform at the Family Partnership Center is a beautiful reminder that the arts belong to everyone. Access to music and the arts should be part of every community’s heartbeat. We are looking forward to this partnership which will bring joy and opportunity to families on the northside of Poughkeepsie,” said Leah Feldman, CEO of Family Services.

The HVSO welcomes Arnaud Sussmann to perform with the orchestra again. Sussmann was the 2007 winner of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic String Competition and a 2009 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Sussmann has distinguished himself with his unique sound, bravura, and profound musicianship. A thrilling musician capturing the attention of classical critics and audiences around the world, he has recently appeared as a soloist with the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev, the Vancouver Symphony, and the New World Symphony.

The concert will begin with Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte Overture and then the orchestra will be joined by Arnaud Sussmann performing Mozart’s brilliant Violin Concerto No. 5. The second half of the program features the lush and majestic folk melody Five Variants of ‘Dives and Lazarus’ for string orchestra and harp by Vaughan Williams. Beethoven’s 4th Symphony, full of lyricism and liveliness, concludes the opening concert.

Tickets are available at the door and online: www.hudsonvalleysymphony.org. Reduced prices are offered for seniors and students, and children five and under are welcome free of charge. All are invited to attend.

The concert will take place on November 15th at 3:00 pm at the Family Partnership Center, 29 N. Hamilton St, Poughkeepsie, NY.  Doors will open at 2:15 pm.
