Type O Negative Launches New Coffee Blend with Concept Cafes

Coffee just got a lot creepier – Type O Negative, Brooklyn’s gothic Metal icons from the 1990s and early 2000s, have just released the Official Type O Negative Coffee on October 22.

Type O Negative

Type O Negative was born out of Brooklyn in 1990, combining the talents of vocalist, bassist, and songwriter Peter Steele with guitarist Kenny Hickey, keyboardist Josh Silver, and drummer Johnny Kelly. The band rose from the ashes of Steele’s previous thrash band, Carnivore. The quartet transformed the heavy metal genre with their slow tempos, dark humor, and distinct blend of melody and melancholy.

The band’s magnum opus is widely considered to be 1993’s Bloody Kisses, driven by the success of “Black No. 1,” which broke the band into the Billboard Top 200. The band dissolved in 2010 after the passing of Peter Steele, but their influence on the genre remains constant.

“Surprisingly simple some might say, but blood is universal truth, the great equalizer, the bond that binds us in symbiotic union; the irony of that which cycles our mortality and stains our immortality, the sobering substance just beneath the surface. Type O doesn’t cater to the mold, & neither does their private label; but their cellular construct is centrifuged into our collective DNA and spreading like a virus.”

– Mike Tonsetic, Founder of Concept Cafes

This newest venture, Type O Negative Universal Donor Coffee, sees the band partner up with Concept Cafes, a business specifically designed to collaborate with Metal bands (like Cannibal Corpse and Max & Iggor Cavalera) and bring Metalheads high-quality coffees dreamed up by their favorite artists.

The Type O Negative Universal Donor Coffee beans come quarantined in blood bank IV bags, while the Nitro-cold brew variant (nicknamed “plasma”) is served in custom blood vials. The blend was designed by the band to capture a sense of “Brooklyn blood, sweat, and tears,” along with an air of “love and depression.” The coffee blend is sure to satisfy Metalheads’ cravings for a unique and inspired type of coffee, completely unlike any standard-issue storebought brand.
