In Focus: Sex, Drugs & Steel Panther

On October 24, Steel Panther brought sex, drugs and rock n roll to Anthology in Rochester. The comedic glam metal band performed their most popular songs to a full house, ignoring the politically correct culture of today and pushing forward their own brand of authenticity.

Donning loud colored spandex pants, ripped shirts and really bad wigs, Steel Panther is a raunchy good time filled with female dancers, raunchy humor that matched the songs and audience inclusion. The band uses humor to make fun of glam metal tropes like the over consumption of drugs, sex with groupies, and sexually transmitted diseases. Their audience inclusion was a highlight to experience, when during “Impromptu Song for a Girl” and “17 Girls in a Row,” the band brought women up onto the stage, giving them an experience to remember and men something to watch.

Steel Panther is a show that you will either love or hate, but in the end it’s really just a parody band not meant to be taken seriously. The show is very entertaining thanks to the over the top humor – every now and then it’s nice to enjoy a show not meant to be taken seriously and escape for a little while.

Set List: Eyes of a Panther, It Won’t Suck Itself, Asian Hooker, Friends With Benefits, The Shocker, Guitar Solo, Impromptu Song for a Girl, Girl From Oklahoma, 17 Girls in a Row, Eatin’ Ain’t Cheatin’, Community Property, Death to All but Metal
