Fury Young, director and founder of FREER Records, is set to release his debut album Escape from LES on November 21, with a listening party on November 20 at NYC’s KGB Bar.

Escape from LES is an homage to Young’s experience as a fourth generation Lower East Sider who’s always dreamed of achieving bigger things beyond his hometown. This tightly crafted record consists of 8 synth-wave and post-pop tracks, each telling Young’s compelling story of having “never left the hustle and [longing] for escape” from the NYC neighborhood he’s called home since his 1990s childhood.
The album begins with Young’s August single “Slow Motion,” a rock and synth-pop ballad inspired by the genre’s best from the 1980s. The track acts as an excellent introduction to the LP, wasting no time telling listeners what the album’s all about – yearning for something beyond what you’ve always known – all packaged inside an anthemic, provocative pop hit in the making.
The second song is the title track, “Escape from LES,” which is bound to grab listeners’ attention right away with its soaring guitar solo, catchy drum beat, and synth rhythm. This stellar production is the work of Finnish producer duo Tommi Vatanen and Tuomo Korander (a.k.a. BigBadBeats) and Brooklyn musicians Tom McCaffrey and Ben Pagano. This impeccable team of artists and producers are what makes the songs on Escape from LES such incredible callbacks to the signature sounds of the 1980s.
Last month’s single, “Middle of the Nite” ft. ROY, is another undeniable highlight on the album, once again putting Young’s poetry-inspired lyricism to earworm-worthy synth instrumentals. Each track on the album feels purposeful and cohesive to the album’s central theme, and the 1980s synth-pop sound profile remains consistent throughout each of the 8 tracks.
Fury Young may be new to releasing LPs, but he is anything but new to the music industry. As the founder and co-Executive Director of FREER Records, the first and only label in the United States that is dedicated to formerly and currently incarcerated artists. Young claims that working with this unique subset of musicians, who are motivated to create music against all odds, inspired him to give a voice to his own creative journey. His first venture was the 2023 EP Tree Indeed, which fused folk, rock, and rap inspirations into one distinctive set of tracks.
To listen to Escape from LES one day early and celebrate the album’s release, you can attend the official release party on November 20 at Manhattan’s KGB Bar (85 E 4th Street) from 7:00-9:30 p.m. To purchase tickets to the release party, click here, and for more information on Young and his projects, click here.
