Space Truckin’ with moe. at the Mayo

moe. delivered a thrilling performance in Morristown, NJ on Saturday, September 5, as part of their 35th-anniversary “Circle of Giants” tour.

Held at the Mayo Performing Arts Center, the concert was a vibrant mix of the band’s classic jams and their newest material, reflecting both their deep-rooted legacy and their ongoing evolution. The atmosphere was electric from the moment the band took the stage, setting the tone for a night of high energy, musical exploration, and crowd connection.

The show opened with a strong dose of familiarity, featuring “The Ghost of Ralph’s Mom” and “Seat of My Pants,” which immediately energized longtime fans. It wasn’t long before the band dove into new territory with “Giants,” a standout track from their latest studio album. Led by keyboardist Nate Wilson—now a full-time member—offered a fresh sonic layer to the band’s signature sound and was met with enthusiastic reception from the audience. Wilson’s presence has added a new dimension to moe.’s live dynamics, on full display throughout the evening.

One of the most memorable stretches came during a seamless mid-set sequence: a fluid journey from “Tomorrow Is Another Day” into “Spine of a Dog,” then into the sprawling “Rebubula,” with a surprise cover of Genesis’s “Carpet Crawlers” woven in. The band’s mastery of transitions and improvisation was unmistakable, keeping fans on their toes and locked into the moment. This kind of tight, adventurous jamming is a hallmark of moe.’s live shows; they haven’t lost a step after more than three decades on the road.

The second set leaned into fan favorites and deeper cuts, including a high-octane cover of Deep Purple’s “Space Truckin’,” the always-welcome “Mexico,” and a fiery rendition of “Recreational Chemistry.” The encore, “Nebraska,” wrapped the night on a soulful note, sending the crowd home buzzing. Throughout the night, the band balanced playful energy with intricate musicianship, reminding everyone why they’ve remained such a vital force in the jam scene.

Overall, the Morristown show was a strong statement from a band still exploring new ground while honoring the foundation that’s earned them such a loyal following. moe. isn’t just celebrating their past—they’re expanding their sound in ways that keep their music compelling and their performances unforgettable.
