Celebrate Westcott Music & Culture at the Westcott Street Cultural Fair

The Westcott Street Cultural Fair returns for its 33rd annual fair on Sunday, September 28 on Syracuse’s Westcott Street.

The fair kicks off at noon with a traditional parade along the 500 block and surrounding side streets, with 6 more hours of live music, dance performances, and shopping with local vendors to follow from 12:30-6:30 p.m.

Fans of Upstate New York music will not be disappointed, as the Westcott Street Cultural Fair is set to have 6 stages worth of musical and dance performances. Acts will range from SAMMY-winning rock, blues and funk groups to multicultural dance groups and belly dancers. There will also be a children’s stage featuring magicians and storytellers alongside children’s musicians.

“This is my favorite city festival of all! It’s rich with color, energy, and cool people, and there are amazing performances wherever you turn.”

-Paul Otteson, Westcott Neighborhood resident

If none of that catches your eye, then maybe the 140 local vendors lining the streets of Westcott will. Local artisans selling their handmade jewelry, pottery, soaps, candles, clothes and more will have booths, along with some local non-profits and government agency advocates. While you’re there, you can also visit any of the several local Westcott businesses backing the event, such as Recess Coffee & Roastery, Alto Cinco, and Yeti Frozen Yogurt & Cafe.

The WSCF is always striving to celebrate the diverse community of Syracuse’s vibrant Westcott neighborhood. If you’re curious of just how much this festival means to the people of Syracuse, stop by the Petit Branch Library this month to check out their collection of WSCF memorabilia from the past 3 decades.

If you’ll be in the Syracuse area at the end of September, don’t miss out on one of the most jam-packed street fairs to grace the Central New York. There truly will be something for everyone, and it’s never a waste of time to get immersed in New York State culture.
