Strange Machines Tether Between Metal and Synth Rhythms in “Parasite” Single

New England-based rock band Strange Machines released their second single, “Parasite,” off their upcoming third album, Playing with Fire.

“Parasite” dives into the heavier, more aggressive side of metal, a stark contrast to the cleaner, melodic edge of the album’s first single, “Time to Go.” With “Parasite” and “Time to Go” featuring different spectrums of the metal and rock genres, fans can assume Playing with Fire showcases the band’s versatility.

Strange Machines have made a name for themselves around the East Coast scene for over a decade. Made up of members Mike MacDonald (guitar, vocals), Christian Perron (keys), Craig Holland (bass), and Ryan Clausen (drums), the band is known for cross-blending a multitude of genres, all while infusing captivating, engrossing live performances.

“Parasite” first establishes an enticing strumming buildup before transitioning to a classic metal-rock riff. The single explores how devotion can easily blur into self-destruction, captured by the song’s relentless push-and-pull in its chorus. The chorus tethers between the metal riffs and an alluring synth rhythm. With backing by strong drums and bass, the song is a raw and emotional reckoning.

‘Parasite’ is a visceral and unflinching reflection on being drawn into someone else’s chaos, where love and degradation become inseparable. I hope it speaks to anyone who’s ever felt the magnetic pull of a bond that both sustains and consumes.
