Rochester’s chamber ensemble fivebyfive is celebrating its tenth year anniversary with a bold 2025-2026 season that features two major productions.
This year’s milestone season is titled “Of This World”, serving as a tribute to the “invisible forces, fragile ecosystems and beautiful complexities” that influence and inspire the world.
This season will feature two major themed productions, Subatomic Mysteries and Wonders of Water. Both productions will feature new music performed by fivebyfive’s very own musicians, including flutist Laura Lentz, clarinetist Marcy Bacon, electric guitarist Ken Luk, bassist Erik Polenik and pianist Haeyeun Jeun.

Subatomic Mysteries will be held on two dates; October 18 at 7 p.m. and October 19 at 3 p.m. Both performances will be held at the Sloan Performing Arts Center in the University of Rochester’s Smith Hall and will feature pre-concert chats 30 minutes prior to the production’s start. Subatomic Mysteries is an immersive program that explores the complexity of the many building blocks that form the universe through a sweeping presentation of sound, motion and light.
This production also explores the musicians interpretation of quantum theory through the expressive power of music and dance. fivebyfive collaborated with Direct of the University of Rochester’s Program of Dance and Movement Missy Phfol Smith and dancers whose performances will embody entangled particles, wave-particle duality and branching probabilities. fivebyfive also partnered with the Laboratory for Laser Energetics physicist Antonino Di Piazza to manufacture cutting-edge visual projections.

Wonders of Water will be held on both March 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. Both performances will be held at the Strasenbergh Planetarium and will feature pre-concert chats 30 minutes prior to the production’s start. This program coincides with the Rochester Museum and Science Center exhibit of the same name and features music inspired by the beauty and power of water. New works by Sherri Chung, Meilina Tsui and Glenn McClure with pipa soloist Leah Ou will be presented, as well as an immersive video from fivebyfive’s visual artist Marc Webster.
Other highlights from fivebyfive’s upcoming season include the 4Now concert series, a presentation of smaller, intimate concerts held September 12, November 16, April 24, 2026 and May 15, 2026 at Payton Violins in Rochester’s Village Gate.
