The Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) presented their annual awards on August 7, honoring community figures who have made substantial contributions to the area.
The awards ceremony was held at the Country Inn and Suites during the Downtown Albany BID 2025 Annual Meeting. Government officials, community leaders and stakeholders commemorated the accomplishments of this year’s honorees and celebrated the spirit of Downtown and its bright future as the area undergoes many positive transformations.

The honorees of this year’s 2025 Downtown Luminary Award are The Hollow Bar + Kitchen co-owners Dora and Mike Philip. Since its founding in 2013, The Hollow Bar + Kitchen has been a cornerstone for culture, creativity and community in downtown Albany. Offering both an elevated restaurant dining experience and live music, the Hollow has played a crucial role in supporting growing local events in Downtown. The Hollow is a longtime sponsor of the annual event Pearlpalooza, Downtown Albany’s free, family friendly music festival, which is set for September 13 this year.
Also honored at this year’s awards was Mayor Kathy Sheehan, who received the James M. DiNapoli Award for her dedication to collaboration and progress, as well as her positive vision that has contributed to building a better Downtown. Some of Mayor Sheehan’s administrative accomplishments that earned her the James M. DiNapoli Award are the Albany Skyway Project, the Tricentennial Park Reconstruction and the Clinton Market Collective; all of which contributed to the beautification and communal spirit of Downtown.
