Blue Wave Records marks a milestone with its 40th Anniversary Concert, a celebration set to take place on October 4 at the Center For The Arts of Homer.

Headlining the concert is Blue Avenue, a dynamic blues/rock band led by guitarist Mark Doyle and vocalist Joanna Nix. The evening will also feature special guest Joe Whiting, with Ithaca bluesman Raewald Howland-Bolton opening the show.

Blue Avenue, a five-piece band strongly intact with a four-piece horn section, made its official “big stage” debut this past June at The New York State Blues Festival. They earned local acclaim for their performance.
The group features the skilled guitar work of Doyle, a Central New York music legend who has been in some of the greatest area bands of the last 50+ years. His career includes notable runs with Jukin’ Bone, Backbone Slip, The Doyle-Whiting Band, and his current group, Mark Doyle & The Maniacs. He is also the guitarist and band leader for National recording artist Mary Fahl (The October Project). He was a former member of bands including Meatloaf, The Peter Wolf Band (ex. J.Geils Band) and has recorded with Bryan Adams, Hall & Oates and many more.
Joanna Nix, a well-known presence in the Central New York scene from local performances, steps to the blues/rock scene under the management of Blue Wave Records president/founder Greg Spencer. She, along with Blue Avenue, are currently in the process of preparing their Blue Wave Records debut album to be released in 2026.

Joining Blue Avenue for the anniversary show is Central New York music legend, Joe Whiting, who recently released his memoir, “Saxophones Microphones & Buried Bones.” Whiting has been a part of popular bands such as Joe Whiting & The Bandit Band (who toured with Van Halen for over 40 concerts in the mid-80’s), The Bobby Comstock Band and has collaborated with Mark Doyle for Free Will / Jukin’ Bone/ Backbone Slip / Doyle-Whiting Band and The East Coast All-Stars.
Founded in 1985 by Baldwinsville native Greg Spencer, Blue Wave is Central New York’s oldest nationally distributed Independent Record Label. Over the past four decades, Blue Wave has released albums from national artists Downchild Blues Band, Eric Burdon, Kim Simmonds & Savoy Brown, Cub Koda, Arthur Brown & Jimmy Carl Black, Sean Costello, Jimmy Cavallo as well as Syracuse-based artists such as The Kingsnakes, Doyle-Whiting Band, Kim Lembo & Blue Heat and others. Spencer, a Sammy Hall of Fame member and Blue Wave president, also produces The GREAT Salt City BLUES Concert held annually in Syracuse each December.
The 40th Anniversary Concert will take place on October 4 at the Center For The Arts of Homer (72 S. Main St., Homer, NY). The venue opens at 6 p.m., doors at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m.
