Kirsten Agresta Copely’s “Kuruvinda”: Timeless Female Strength Encapsulated in a Ten Track Album

Kirsten Agresta Copely returns with her third album, Kuruvinda – a ten track harp-driven journey of womanhood, delving into themes of strength, grace, and beauty that come along with time.

Following the GRAMMY-nominated album, Aquamarine, Copley moves away from serenity and ventures within the interconnectedness of contrasting elements, representing life’s dual experiences.

The album name comes from the Sanskrit word for an imperfect ruby. Kurvinda embraces this imperfection and contains a quiet power of vulnerability and self-acceptance.

Each piece unveils another surface of this imperfect gem, as listeners are guided from a raw ache to a hard-won clarity. Copley’s harp calls to a generation of women who’ve learned that features such as laugh lines, silver hair strands, and softened edges are just proof of a life fully lived.

This album emerged from a time of deep introspection, when I reflected on the quiet power of authenticity over perfection. Kuruvinda is my way of honoring the tender places that we usually try to hide, and to create a space where flaws feel not only accepted, but beautiful.

Copely has a dynamic résumé with three solo recitals at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center debuts, performances for President Barack Obama and Queen Rania, onstage moments with Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Enya, and The Who, plus soundtrack credits spanning Sex and the City 2 to Star Wars: The Old Republic. A former associate professor at Vanderbilt University and a Recording Academy voting member, she now mentors the next generation while modeling what it means to evolve in plain sight.

Her discography– Dream World (2001), The Covers Album (2019), the Global Music Award– winning Around the Sun (2020), and the GRAMMY-nominated Aquamarine (2023) – has amassed more than 12 million streams and steady SiriusXM Spa airplay, ultimately showcasing the harp’s influence in captivating modern audiences.

Across ten meditative compositions, Kirsten Agresta Copely truly maximizes the harp’s dynamic range from thunderous low-end currents to smooth upper register sighs. She crafts resonant soundscapes that feel like deep breaths between chapters. In her work, mindfulness and meditation ground the music. Each note is deliberate and as steady as the heartbeat of a woman who has found her footing after a difficult time.

The record, produced and mixed by her husband, guitarist Marc Copely, was created without the use of synths or keyboards, keeping and emphasizing every organic vibration. The result is an immersive and restorative sound– one ideal for self-acceptance.

The album opens with a bright, ethereal-like glissando, with pauses between phrases, allowing the listener to absorb each note as it arrives. The track “Shadow Light” intertwines strength and grace, with its melodic sounds pulling listeners in and inviting them into a world where a journey of self-reflection begins.

The lead single “Kuruvinda,” takes listeners on a journey towards embracing the flaws we often hide and reminding us that imperfection is part of our brilliance. By carrying bits of hope, the track speaks to emotions faced and moved through in life’s stages– good and bad, feeling intimate and universal.

“Threadline” explores the delicacy of connection, whether to others or to one’s own inner world. The harp’s flowing, deliberate melody mirrors that fine tension like a thread stretched between vulnerability and understanding. Copely crafts a sonic space for introspection, where even fragility feels grounding.

Each track on Kuruvinda brings listeners to a contemplative state, where imperfection is accepted and celebrated. Copley makes use of the dynamic range of the harp to create a journey that resonates deeply with listeners all around. Her use of the harp doesn’t just make music, but tells stories.

Kuruvinda is available now on all streaming services. More information and updates on Copely can be found at her website, Instagram, and Facebook.
