In Focus: Phish Night One at Forest Hills

In their first performance in New York City since their end of 2024 New Year’s Run, Phish lit up the Forest Hills stage on July 22nd. They started their first ever two-night sold-out stay in Queens earlier than other shows on their summer tour due to the stadium’s strict 10 P.M. curfew.

With the early start in the outdoor venue, fans got to enjoy Phish’s tunes in daylight, through the sunset, and finally, at night. The change in natural lighting went along with a change in energy and tempo in the music Phish played. They started with some less intense songs while the sun was still shining, like “The Moma Dance” and “Sigma Oasis.” But once the second set hit, and sun receded behind the Manhattan skyline, the jam reached new levels with “Tweezer” and “What’s Going Through Your Mind.”

Phish will play for a sold-out Forest Hills crowd again tonight and will wrap up their summer tour with three shows at the Broadview Stage at SPAC starting Friday, July 25.
