Harlem’s Summer Stage Series Returns

Harlem’s Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Plaza is hosting live music this summer as part of New York State’s Summer Stage in Harlem series. Presented by the Office of General Services and the Harlem Community Development Corporation, the free Thursday evening concerts run from July 17 through August 21, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The series opened July 17 with jazz drummer Camille Gainer Jones and Brooklyn-based vocalist Charles Turner III and his band Uptown Swing. On July 24, it shifts to gospel with Delivered, a genre-blending group from Trenton. Followed by NYC’s Songs of Solomon, a youth ensemble rooted in spiritual and diaspora traditions.

July 31 brings R&B to the plaza with Ty Stephens and SoulJazz, featuring a veteran crew of musicians who’ve shared stages with everyone from Stevie Wonder to Sting. Queens-based Bartlett Contemporaries close out the night with five decades of funk, soul, and retro grooves.

“Summer Stage supports access to the arts and reinforces Harlem’s legacy as an iconic home of Black culture,” said Empire State Development President, CEO, and Commissioner Hope Knight. “The free concert series invites New Yorkers to enjoy Harlem’s arts scene and local businesses, driving community-based economic development that is sustainable and accessible to all.”
