Pixies performed at the Brooklyn Paramount on Tuesday, July 15. Kurt Vile and the Violators are in support on this tour, bringing their blend of indie and psychedelic rock.

The audience had a great start to the show Tuesday night with Vile and the Violators setting the tone with a hypnotic and quietly immersive set with songs like “Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)”, “Exploding Stones”, and “Wakin on a Pretty Day”.

The Pixies are credited as one of the pioneers of alternative rock, known for their raw sound that has influenced a generation of bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Nirvana, Weezer, and The Strokes just to name a few. The Pixies were formed in Boston in the 80s, and reunited back in 2004, and currently consist of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Black Francis, percussionist David Lovering, lead guitarist Joey Santiago, and bass and backing vocalist Emma Richardson.
The Pixies have been on their North American Tour since June 13, performing two different sets over consecutive nights in 12 U.S. and 2 Canadian cities. They performed the entire Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde albums on night one, and classics from their deep, rich catalog on night two, along with some new songs from their latest album, The Night The Zombies Came, which was released last fall.

The Brooklyn Paramount was filled with a buzzing sense of anticipation as the lights dimmed. The Pixies strolled onstage with quiet confidence, going straight into action playing songs from Bossanova such as “Cecilia Ann”, “Is She Weird”, and “All Over the World”. Black Francis’s vocals were incredible, with Santiago’s riffs in the background cutting throughout the beautiful venue. Lenchantin’s bass lines and Lovering’s drumming completed it.

The crowd was a passionate and cool mix of fans, young and old, who sang along with every lyrics with bodies swaying and head nodding. The visuals complimented the gorgeous venue and music with the use of colorful strobes, a haze of fog, and a large “P” accompanied by wings, making the space extremely dreamlike. The band transitioned into Trompe le Monde, playing songs such as “Planet of Sound”, “U-Mass”, and “Motorway to Roswell”. Each song bled seamlessly into the next.

The band ended the show off with a great encore playing classics “Here Comes Your Man” and “Where Is My Mind?”. The room completely erupted when these came on with everyone singing along and waving their hands towards the stage and drinks up to the sky. The Pixies continue to reaffirm their place as one of the most influential and important rock bands.

The Pixies continue their North American tour and closes off on September 19 in Atlanta before they head to Japan and the land down under. The Night The Zombies Came is out on all digital platforms. For more details, visit the Pixies’ official website.
