Minus the Bear Will Bring ‘Menos el Oso’ Anniversary Tour to NYC

Minus the Bear are back this fall to celebrate 20 years of Menos el Oso, and they’re making multiple stops in New York. They’ll play Brooklyn Steel on November 7 and Irving Plaza on November 8 and 9. The first two shows, with support from Speedy Ortiz, are already sold out, but tickets are still available for the final NYC date on November 9, featuring local openers Wild Arrows.

Originally released in 2005, Menos el Oso pushed Minus the Bear’s sound into new territory – tight math rock with electronic textures and grooves that hold up today. The album gets a deluxe reissue on August 22 through the record label Suicide Squeeze, complete with a full remaster, five never-heard demos, and a 24-page archival photo zine from the band’s personal collection. The demo for “Hooray” is streaming now and gives a raw look at how the record took shape.

Oso is a band and fan favorite,” says front-man Jake Snider. “We came into our sound on this record.” Guitarist Dave Knudson adds, “These songs are muscle memory… we were trying to push the envelope, and 20 years later it still sounds fresh.” Whether you’ve been riding with them since Highly Refined Pirates or found them years later, this run is shaping up to be a rare chance to hear Menos el Oso front-to-back.
