The Genesee Valley Council of the Arts (GVCA) has announced a series of four fundraising events to be held this summer to combat arts funding cuts.

As a nonprofit organization serving both Livingston and Monroe counties for over 50 years, the GVCA has funded local artists and rising creatives, as well as offered programs to grant community members more access to various art forms. Their diverse programs include art, film and theater summer camps for middle and high school students like GLOW Traditions, which supports local art and folklife through public programs, documentation and advocacy, and Creative Artists Migrant Program Services (CAMPS), which offers art workshops to migrant farm workers and their families who are geographically disadvantaged and lack the access to arts opportunities.
But the current political climate has raised concerns and posed threats to future arts funding. In an effort to offset projected budgeting shortfalls, the GVCA has kickstarted the Keep the Arts Alive campaign, which includes four diverse fundraising events.
The first event is a benefit concert held at the Iron Smoke Distillery in Fairport on July 13 from 2 to 7 p.m. This event features performances from several local artists, including roots rock band Head To The Roots, a unique mix of rock, funk and 90s pop, Eli Flynn and the Everymen, and dynamic rock group Judah. November Blue will take the stage to honor the music of the Avett Brothers, and one-man Americana band Jackson Cavalier is also set to perform.

The remaining fundraising events promoted by the Keep the Arts Alive campaign include Live Dance, a square dancing and barbecue event held at Lakeville Training Solutions, Stay Alive is a haunted museum held at the GVCA New Deal Museum in Mt. Morris, and Live & Local is an artisanal holiday market held in Geneseo. The dates for these events have yet to be announced.
Contributions are encouraged and support these events through donor and sponsorship levels, which offers exclusive benefits like event recognition, VIP access and the opportunity to connect with performing artists.
