Public Circuit consists of Ethan Biamont, Sean Holloway and Nelson Fisher, creating post-punk music reminiscent of New Order and Nervous Gender.

“Samson” is a synth-pop ballad with punk expression taking inspiration from the sounds of Pet Shop Boys and The Faint.

“This song was named after the religious tale of Samson the warrior, a character I always thought was so cool as a child,” band member Ethan Biamont said. “What does it mean to embrace or defy the concepts of masculinity in a world so choked by patriarchal ideals for gender expression and sexuality? Samson loses his hair which is the key to his masculine strength.”

I think that when you stray from the binary ideas of gender, it can feel like you need some obvious physical denotion to express that feeling. Cut me free.

The band’s sophomore album Modern Church dismantles and reassembles post-punk with a fresh spin on retro revivalism. The record channels electronic instrumentation and percussive rhythms in a “sophisti-pop” sound, the band said in a statement.

The album has a religious theme used to explore gender identity, the fleeting faith of society and the repercussions of unresolved trauma, the band touched on in a statement. The influence comes from NYC’s constant feed of noise and the bustle of the city.
