Perfume Genius brought his “Glory” tour to Buffalo on Friday, June 13.
Perfume Genius comes from Michael Hadreas, a bit of a musical chameleon, with most of his albums having a distinct vibe, sometimes taking a hard turn in a different direction and you can get a real sense of progression as he moved along. He commented that it was his first time in Buffalo, and he picked the fantastic and newer Electric City to make his debut.

Hadreas owns the whole stage when he performs. He takes up a lot of space and plays with a few toys to keep it fun, including an extremely long extension cord, an exercise ball, and a spinning platform with some chairs (that he managed to fall off early on in the show). His performance was captivating, as his mood could oscillate from serious and brooding one moment to striking a goofy pose on a tipping chair the next. It felt free yet vulnerable, like we were getting a peak of him dancing around his room singing into a hair brush.

The tour was in support of his album from earlier this year, “Glory” and the setlist showcased it while mixing in a good amount of classics and stand-outs from his earlier work. He ended the night with fantastic version of “Queen”, and he walked off the stage while the band finished up. His tour hits the Midwest next before going to Europe.
