Queens-based Mayzie Belle released “Beach Bum” on Friday, June 13, making their debut as an alt-rock trio.

With summer creeping up, “Beach Bum” makes itself a candidate for “song of the summer” with its warm, distorted sound and hunky dory lyrics.
Mayzie Belle make their debut with Chrissy Menfi on vocals, Brandon Malave on bass and vocals and Adam Troselj on guitar. The band takes influences of shoegaze, surf rock and punk to form their colorful sound.
The layered guitars, reminiscent of the sun’s glimmery reflection on the water set the scene for lead vocalist Chrissy Menfi’s powerful, vintage fuzz vocals.
“It’s a modern day ‘Summer Lovin’ from Grease,” Menfi said.
The lyrics speak of freedom and the carefree attitude of summers at the beach with a lazy, young love undertone. Bassist Brandon Malave said he wrote the song after a day of people-watching on Brighton Beach during a major life transition.
“Tidal waves rushing through // Taste the salt on your skin // Had a drink one or two // I think I wanna burn with you // I don’t even care // What’s it got to matter.”
The single’s cover depicts a 60s feeling with a woman in a red bikini sunbathing in front of an abandoned Volkswagen Beetle and an old-fashioned diner style font.
