The Hassles, a rock-soul group from Long Island, formed in 1964 and performed until 1969. They played in a wide range of Long Island venues and produced two full-length albums.

“The Hassles were a dynamic and influential part of Long Island’s musical fabric in the 1960s, known for their powerful performances and infectious sound,” LIMEHOF Vice Chairman, Tom Needham, said. “Their recordings and live shows left a lasting impression on the region, and their role in launching Billy Joel’s career only adds to their enduring legacy.”

Original members of the band included Richard McKenna (guitar), Jon Small (drums), John Dizek (vocals, harmonica, tambourine), Harry Weber (bass, organ) Billy Joel (keyboards, vocals) and Howie Arthur Blauvelt (bass). While Billy Joel is not expected to appear, Jon Small and Richard McKenny, surving members of the group are expected to accept the induction.

This award makes Billy Joel a two-time LIMEHOF inductee. The event will feature live performances from The Alessi Brothers, Rike Ricciardella of Barnaby Bye and The Illusion. The musicians will honor the legacy of The Hassles, playing some of their most popular songs including “You Got Me Hummin'” and “Every Step I Take.”

The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating and preserving Long Island’s musical and entertainment heritage. The organization encompasses Nasseau, Suffolk, Queens and Kings (Brooklyn) Counties.
