In Focus: 914Cares Benefit Feat. Blues Traveler at The Capitol Theatre

On Thursday, May 29, Blues Traveler returned to The Capitol Theatre for a benefit concert in support of 914Cares, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting poverty stricken families and individuals throughout Westchester.

Formed in Princeton, NJ, the 90s jam band is no stranger to The Cap, having headlined many shows there over the last 30 years. Consisting of John Popper (Lead Vocals/Harmonica), Chan Kinchla (Guitar), Tad Kinchla (Bass), and Brandon Hill (Drums).

Following a performance with Gin Blossoms on Jimmy Kimmel Live the night prior, Blues Traveler criss-crossed the country, opened the show at the Capitol Theatre with their classic hit “Runaround” which immediately had the audience dancing and singing along from the first note. The band then played an hour and a half long set weaving through some of their bigger hits including “Hook” and “But Anyway” but also adding some longer jams.

The band also pulled out some more unexpected covers like “Hot For Teacher” by Van Halen and closing the night with an encore of “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers.

Blues Traveler joins Gin Blossoms and Spin Doctors on tour this summer throughout the U.S starting in July. For more information on 914 cares please visit their site.
