Billy Joel announced today his recent diagnosis with a brain disorder and must cancel the rest of his tour dates through 2026. The 76-year-old singer is suffering from Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH).

NPH occurs where spinal fluid builds up in the brain, causing problems with hearing, vision and balance. While in recovery, Joel’s doctor advised against performing to prevent worsening the condition. “He is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health,” according to a statement released today.
“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding,” Joel said.
Billy Joel is a singer, songwriter and pianist born in The Bronx and raised in Hicksville, Long Island, best known for songs “Piano Man” and “New York State of Mind.” Having performed for over 50 years, Joel holds the record for the most shows played at Madison Square Garden at 150.
All tour dates through July 2026 are cancelled following the diagnosis and fans will receive full refunds automatically.
This cancellation follows the rescheduling of several shows from the spring, including one in Syracuse at the JMA Wireless Dome. To see the full list of cancelled dates, see below or click here.
