In Focus: Amyl and The Sniffers at The Rooftop at Pier 17

On Thursday, May 15, Australian punk band Amyl and The Sniffers continued the North American leg of their Cartoon Darkness Tour to a sold out crowd at The Rooftop at Pier 17. The tour is in support of their latest album, Cartoon Darkness. Following an appearance on The Tonight Show the night prior, the band delivered a 21 song set. This was their first and only stop through New York on this tour.

Formed in 2016, the Melbourne based group have come to be known by audiences for their fierce and energetic stage performances. Made up of Amy Taylor (Vocals), Dec Martens (Guitar), Gus Romer (Bass) and Bryce Wilson (Drums), the band takes it’s inspiration from the classic punk sound of the 70s

At 8:25, as the lights on the stage dimmed, the band walked out to Destination Calabria by Alex Gaudino. Lead singer Amy Taylor kicked off the show by shouting, “If anybody falls down, you help em’ up! Don’t touch anyone that doesn’t wanna be touched and get rowdy!”. The band then ripped through 21 of some of their best known songs. The energy from within the crowd was intoxicating as people crowd surfed across the sea of hands.

Their tour continues through the U.S until the end of May, picking back up in Europe in June.
