With the Tony Awards season weeks away, Broadway.com announced the winners for the 25th annual Audience Choice Awards on May 15. The Audience Choice Awards is the only major theatrical prize voted on solely by fans.
Death Becomes Her brought in 6 awards this year, including favorite new musical. Based on the 1992 film, Death Becomes Her is the story of lifelong rivals Madeline Ashton and Helen Sharp who drink a potion with promise of eternal youth and face the unexpected and hilarious effects. Megan Hilty won two awards for the performance, favorite performance of the year (musical) and favorite onstage pair with co-star Jennifer Simard.
The classic Romeo + Juliet followed close behind, winning 5 awards this year including favorite play revival. Leading actor, Kit Conner brought in 3 awards for favorite leading actor in a play, favorite breakthrough performance (male) and favorite performance of the year (play).
