Brooklyn based artist Oropendola has released her “Palace of Sunflowers” ahead of upcoming album Swimming out June 27.

“Palace of Sunflowers” evokes playfulness and child-like wonder with a constant toy piano clacking throughout the song and obscure lyrics:
“With your buck teeth // And your scraggly hairdo // I have not told you lately // But you bring home the very best acorns in the land”
Joanna Schubert, the singer-songwriter and pianist behind Oropendola, said she created the song at a time when she felt lost, looking to nature and woodland fantasies for inspiration. Now playing the song live, Schubert returns to that magical mental refuge.
It’s an utterly delightful intake of fresh air, a cathartic romp, a whimsical, hopeful, and odd love song… seemingly directed towards a squirrel.

“Palace of Sunflowers” is the first single off of the upcoming album Swimming, out June 27. Swimming is Oropendola’s anticipated sophomore album. Unlike her first chamber-pop album Waiting for the Sky to Speak, Swimming will conjure the energy of her live performances with predominantly piano-vocal compositions. The album will take inspirations from artists like Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor and The Roches.
