In Focus: Fantastic Cat at Assembly

On Thursday, May 8, indie supergroup continued the “Fantastic Cat Needs Money Tour” at Assembly in Kingston, the group’s first time performing at the newly opened school-house turned concert venue.

Formed in 2021, the band is made up of singer-songwriters Anthony D’Amato, Brian Dunne, Don DiLego, and Hollis Brown. All members hail from New York and New Jersey. Unlike most other groups, Fantastic Cat is a revolving band that features all four members moving from instrument to instrument in between songs. The tour is in support of the deluxe version release of their latest album Now That’s What I Call Fantastic Cat.

Thursday’s show was opened by solo singer-songwriter Anya Marina who played half an hour’s worth of quick-witted, catchy, original songs. Soon after, Fantastic Cat promptly took the stage to deliver an almost 20 song setlist spanning throughout the band’s four studio releases.

Not only was it the bands first time performing at the venue, it was also band member Brian Dunne’s 36th birthday. A cake and candles were brought out on stage to celebrate.
