Bullet for My Valentine and Trivium Bring Two Decades of Firepower to Pier 17

Metal fans packed the scenic Rooftop at Pier 17 on Wednesday, May 7 for one of the most anticipated heavy shows of the year, the New York stop of The Poisoned Ascendancy Tour, a 20th anniversary celebration of Bullet for My Valentine’s The Poison and Trivium’s Ascendancy.

The co-headlining tour also featuring August Burns Red and Bleed From Within, delivered a relentless night of nostalgia and neck-snapping intensity.

Kicking off the night, Bleed From Within stormed the stage with five tracks that set the tone for the chaos to come. The Scottish metalcore outfit wasted no time unleashing “God Complex,” followed by a fierce run including “Levitate” and the crowd-favorite “The End of All We Know.” Their energy and precision made a lasting impression on a crowd that arrived early.

August Burns Red followed with a crushing set of their own, opening with a surprise: a live version of System of a Down’s “Chop Suey!” that began as a taped intro before the full band exploded into action mid-chorus. From there, they charged through fan-favorites like “Paramount,” “Composure,” and the punishing closer “White Washed,” delivering a tight, high-octane performance that had the pit moving nonstop.

Trivium took the stage next to deliver Ascendancy front to back, a rare and special treat for longtime fans. Guitarist/vocalist Matt Heafy commanded the rooftop like a general, leading the band through every twist and breakdown of the classic 2005 release. The crowd roared with every scream and riff, giving Ascendancy the live tribute it deserved.

Closing the night was Bullet for My Valentine, who brought The Poison to life with the same venom and passion that launched their career two decades ago. From “Her Voice Resides” to the iconic “Tears Don’t Fall,” Bullet reminded New York why they’re still one of the defining names in modern metal.

The Brooklyn Bridge, the sweat, and the sound created a perfect storm at Pier 17. This wasn’t just a concert, it was a full-circle celebration of two albums that helped define the 2000s metalcore wave. And for those lucky enough to be there, it was a night that won’t be forgotten any time soon.
