Five years ago, The Brothers brought Madison Square Garden to its feet with a show that would end up being one of the final major concerts before the world came to a sudden halt. That was March 10, 2020, one of the last big shows before everything shut down. Now in 2025, The Brothers returned to the same stage for a heartfelt and long-awaited reunion.

Before their back-to-back shows at the Garden, The Brothers stopped by the SiriusXM Fishbowl studio for a live performance that aired Monday on Southern Rock Channel 79. Throughout April 21st, the band is hosting the new SiriusXM Southern Rock channel, curating music that bridges generations from the genre’s pioneers to its modern-day standard bearers.
This year’s lineup features original Allman Brothers Band drummer Jaimoe, joined by longtime ABB veterans Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks, percussionist Marc Quinones, bassist Oteil Burbridge, and keyboardist Reese Wynans. They’re joined by drummers Joe Russo and Isaac Eady, with Chuck Leavell on piano, a core piece of the ensemble whose presence on the keys brought both power and grace to the two-night run.

Night One: A Return in Full Force
The first night opened with the classic roar of “Statesboro Blues,” setting the tone for a set full of grit, groove, and soul. “Trouble No More” and “Hot ‘Lanta” brought the energy early, while “Midnight Rider” and “Blue Sky” reminded the crowd why this music has stood the test of time.
Special moments came in waves, with Warren and Derek trading solos that seemed to speak their own language. “Come and Go Blues,” “I Walk on Guilded Splinters,” and a breathtaking “Jessica” were among the highlights, each song delivered with care and conviction.
The second set felt more like a journey than a concert. “Mountain Jam” stretched out and circled back later in the night, woven through an emotional “Dreams,” a slow-burning “Stormy Monday,” and the powerful tribute “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.” Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic” was a surprise addition, soaked in warmth, while the set closed with a thunderous encore of “Whipping Post” that shook the Garden.

Night Two: Soul, Swagger, and Southern Harmony
Night two had a different energy — less like a return and more like a celebration. Kicking off with “Don’t Want You No More” and “It’s Not My Cross to Bear,” the band moved confidently through a rich mix of ABB classics and deep-cut blues covers like “I Must Have Done Somebody Wrong” and “Hoochie Coochie Man.”
Chuck Leavell brought a classic Southern elegance to the sound, lighting up “Soulshine,” “Desdemona,” “Jessica,” and “Melissa” with his signature touch. During “Stand Back,” Derek Trucks delivered a blistering solo that led into the final chorus — and right at the end of the song, snapped a guitar string. There was no disruption, just a raw, unscripted moment tucked inside a searing performance.

From there, the band leaned into their soulful roots. “Don’t Keep Me Wonderin’,” “No One to Run With,” and “One Way Out” had the crowd howling, while “Southbound” with Leavell’s driving piano brought the house down.
By the time they launched into “Les Brers in A Minor” and the encore of “Whipping Post,” the Garden had transformed into something much more than a venue. It was a room full of people connected by music that’s lived lifetimes.
Carrying the Flame
These two nights at Madison Square Garden weren’t just concerts, they were something deeper. A tribute, a homecoming, and a reminder that the music of the Allman Brothers Band still resonates just as strongly today. There was no nostalgia, only a genuine love for the songs, the stories, and the spirit behind them.
