The Palace Theatre in Albany has announced performances at the infamous venue for British group UB40 with The English Beat and George Thorogood with The Destroyers, both to be held in September.

UB40 will perform at the Theatre on Sept. 11 as part of their Relentless Tour. With more than 100 million albums sold and over 50 charting singles in the UK, the reggae/pop legends will set the stage for a highly anticipated 45th anniversary celebratory night. The band, featuring original members Robin Campbell (guitar, vocals), Jimmy Brown (drums), Earl Falconer (bass, vocals) and Normal Hassan (Percussion, trombone, vocals), will feature old-time classics, like their #1 global hit “Red Red Wine,” and some new songs for the crowd. UB40’s current lineup also includes Martin Meredith (saxophone, WX7, keyboards), Laurence Parry (trumpet, flugal trombone), Ian Thonmpson (saxophone) and Jahred Gordon (keyboards).
“For more than 40 years, we’ve been one of the hardest working touring bands in pop music,” Campbell said. “We aim to have a party every show. As much as we’ve enjoyed our Zoom chats during lockdown, there’s no substitute for the relationship and synergy we have with our live audiences.”

George Throgood and The Destroyers, consisting of Jeff Simon (drums), Bill Blough (bass), Jim Suhler (guitar) and Buddy Leach (saxophone), will perform at the Theatre on Sept. 16 as part of their Baddest Show on Earth tour. The group has been honored by The Recording Academy’s GRAMMY Museum, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Legends of Rock exhibit and delivered a memorable performance at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. With a career spanning over five decades, joined with over 8,000 live shows, over 15 million albums sold and praise from the Rolling Stone as “the band that plays hot enough to melt the polar ice caps,” the band creates an incredible list of accomplishments that does not show any signs of stopping.
“That’s all pretty good for the first 50 years,” Thorogood said, “But we keep working harder, digging deeper and playing stronger. Now it’s time to go back out there and do some serious rockin’.”
