Award-winning violin-guitar duo ArcoStrum has announced a performance on April 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Fenimore Art Museum theater in Cooperstown.
The duo, consisting of Strauss Shi and Ty Zhang, is most known for their boundary-pushing 21st century violin-guitar art form, delivering a new chamber music style that blends multiple genres, eras and cultures together. Performances from the duo have been described as “thrilling” and “brilliant,” representing “the highest level of technical excellence and musicianship among the new generation of performing artists.” ArcoStrum recently made history as the first violin-guitar duo to win the 2023 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition in the program’s 70 year history.
“With performances that span the globe, ArcoStrum has dazzled audiences around the world with their charisma, technical brilliance, and dynamic onstage chemistry,” said Cooperstown Concerts president Randy Smith. “We’re thrilled to present such virtuosic musicianship and a truly one-of-a-kind experience to our community as part of Cooperstown Concerts’ ongoing dedication to bringing world-class music close to home.
Shi and Zhang met at The Juilliard School, sharing a passion for timeless and profound music paired with creativity. The group was formed with the goal to redefine 21st century violin-guitar art form through their own arrangement of all-time classics, blending Chinese-Western instrumentations to other genres, such as modern progressive rock.
Founded 55 years ago, Cooperstown Concerts has served as a home for live music, dedicating itself to delivering world-class talent and live music to its community. The 2024-25 season continues the theater’s tradition of excellence, featuring a diverse lineup that invites audiences to a new world of sounds and emerging artists.
