Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company and The Ahn Trio announces AAPI Month Celebration

Manhattan’s Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company has announced their Celebration of 2025 Asian American Pacific Islanders Heritage Month performance on May 18 at 3 p.m. at The CitiGroup Theatre in Alvin Ailey American Dance Center with guest performers The Ahn Trio.

The performance will celebrate AAPI month and Chen’s signature cross-cultural style and the diverse influences of her work. The celebration will open with “Unfolding,” one of Chen’s most powerful dances, exploring the flow of energy in Korean Chan-Go music. Other featured dances include “Tiger and Water Lilies,” “Ninja Under the Umbrella.” “Shadow Force” and “Way of Five Fire.” In celebration of the month, the Ahn Trio will join the company to perform “YuRung,” one of the Trio’s most celebrated performances, and additional new works. 

Nai-Ni Chen was a historic choreographer, working in the New Jersey/New York area professionally for over thirty years since 1982. Throughout her professional career, she built a diverse repertoire of over 80 original works and toured to many of the U.S.’ major venues and international festivals in 12 countries around the world. Her work blended together the grace of Chinese cultural traditions and other cultures around the world. She was the former principal affiliate of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and a resident artist of the Harlem School of the Arts

The Nai-Ni Dance Company is an Asian American-woman led professional touring dance company with programs for education, community engagement and mainstage venues. The company aims to be a premier provider of unique cultural experiences that reflect the inspiring hope of the immigrant journey. Founded on the vision that crossing cultures provides endless inspirations, each one of the company’s works aims to increase visibility of the struggle, triumph and despair of this experience.
