Jan Blomqvist Electrifies Brooklyn Steel

On February 28, German DJ and bandleader Jan Blomqvist made his way over to the Brooklyn Steel in Williamsburg for the New York stop on his worldwide MUTE tour. The show marks his second U.S. stop in this international tour, following immediately after Boston the night before.

Blomqvist’s current tour, which began at the end of January, celebrates his newest and third studio album, MUTE. The album was officially released on February 14. Similar to his previous works, Disconnected and Remote Control, MUTE combines elements of disco, electronica, and dance music.

The show began with stunning visuals and a heart-stopping beat drop, bringing the crowd to their feet as Jan and his drummer took the stage. All night, Jan controlled a turntable and sang into a microphone. Throughout the show, he occasionally mixed simple yet energetic dance beats into his music, dancing along on stage.

Songs from Blomqvist’s MUTE were the main focus of the night. The music all seemed to effortlessly blend together, to the point where it was hard to tell when certain songs ended and some began. However, these transitions were executed seamlessly.

Instead of feeling like a drag with no end, the mixing felt smooth and natural. The hypnotic dance beats made the Brooklyn Steel, which normally felt like a traditional concert venue, feel like a high-end Berlin nightclub.

Even the crowd brought an international vibe. The venue was filled with patrons speaking other languages with different accents. With his entrancing techno and bright, snappy visuals, it’s no wonder that Blomqvist’s music attracts people from all over the world.

Blomqvist immediately followed his performance at the Brooklyn Steel with a performance in Chicago’s Outset. His next stop is in Washington, D.C., on March 6. For information and additional dates of the MUTE tour, visit Jan Blomqvist’s website.
