Documentary About New York’s Blotto To Premiere In Cohoes

An upcoming documentary about the New York rock band Blotto is set to make its premiere in April in Cohoes. Hello! My Name is Blotto – The Movie! will debut at the Cohoes Music Hall on April 12, a movie that offers a glimpse inside a band that formed in Upstate New York and whose roots stretch all the way back to the 1970s.

Blotto enjoyed some commercial success in the ’80s primarily with their hit song “I Wanna Be a Lifeguard” whose music video was one of the first ones aired on MTV when it made its debut.

This Blotto documentary is the brainchild of Rob Lichter, aka Bert Blotto, a multimedia expert and
longtime Friend of Blotto. He recorded performances and interviewed the band on and off over the last 25 years to capture the material to make this documentary. He also incorporated a vast collection of archival footage and photos going back as far as 1972.

The result is a fun, lightly censored, self-effacing romp through the improbable life and times of the members of Blotto – a band that had a wide and loyal following and was renowned for their engaging live shows.

The film spans the origins of the band members starting as The Star Spangled Washboard Band in the 1970’s, their evolution to Blotto and heyday in the 1980’s, and their long afterlife up to the present. It’s a unique and joyous take on the timeless story of “trying to make it in show business.”

In addition to airing the documentary, there will also be a 30-minute Q&A session afterwards.
