Pop Singer and Actress McKenna Camille released a new original single just in time for Valentine’s Day. “SITUATIONSHIP” is now streaming on all platforms.

“SITUATIONSHIP” was inspired by McKenna’s own personal experience. It’s about the silly feeling of being in a modern relationship known as a situationship. This upbeat pop single tells the story of being into someone but not enough to date them. They also have those feelings but are not interested in dating either, so they just string you along. It’s a self-aware, silly track that her fans will definitely relate to.
“With ‘SITUATIONSHIP’ specifically, sometimes things just aren’t that serious, and the best we can do is laugh at ourselves and have a good time.”
– McKenna Camille
“SITUATIONSHIP” was written by McKenna with the help of Don Wolf and Adam Hurstfield. The single was recorded in Canada and produced by the talented Adam Hurstfield.
McKenna has released about ten original singles. Original singles include Bad One, Bad One remix ft. Blessed Integrity, Strawberry Shortcake, Cool Guy, Under the Sun, Real Me (demo), B3tt3r Than Y0u, Perfect (delusional demo), No Friends, and Whiplash. She has performed all over the world including New York and Paris Fashion Weeks as well as shows in Los Angeles. McKenna has several upcoming releases, and a music video planned for SITUATIONSHIP.

“If people say you can’t do something, that’s the exact thing you should be doing.”

NYS Music had a conversation with Venter about the duo’s creative processes, responsive shows, songwriting philosophies, and more. Here’s the full interview:
Daniel Joffe: The term “situationship” is something many people can relate to. Why did you choose to explore this theme in your music?
McKenna Camille: I chose the term partly because it’s silly, but mostly because I’ve lived through it and I’ve watched many of my friends go in and out of situationships. It was an opportunity to write something I know well that I could pass up.
DJ: You describe “SITUATIONSHIP” as a self-aware and silly track. How do you want your listeners to feel when they hear this song for the first time
MC: “SITUATIONSHIP” is one of the most honest songs I’ve ever written, as silly as it may be. I hope people hear it and think to themselves, yeah haha this is me and sometimes things aren’t that serious. I hope it lifts spirits.
DJ: You mentioned that “SITUATIONSHIP” was inspired by your personal experiences. How has your own experience with situationships shaped your view on modern relationships, and do you think its meaning has changed over time?
MC: To be frank, I think the internet has really ruined everything. If I’ve learned anything it’s that everyone is either scared of commitment or nothing is good enough for them or both. It’s a mess.
DJ: This song is quite different from some of your past releases. How do you feel your music has evolved with “SITUATIONSHIP,” and what can fans expect from your upcoming projects?
MC: Fans should expect all different sorts of things! I have to say “SITUATIONSHIP” is one of my favorites, but I have some great things coming up that are on the same wave and also a completely opposite wave. You never know what I’m going to do next!
DJ: You said, “If people say you can’t do something, that’s the exact thing you should be doing.” What has this mindset done for your career and personal growth?
MC: I mean, this is what got me into NYU when everyone told me I couldn’t. I like to do things that scare me, it makes the world less scary.
DJ: You have several upcoming releases, and a music video planned. What else can we expect from you this year, and what’s next after “SITUATIONSHIP”?
MC: I have four more songs to be released in the next year with various other projects accompanying them.
