Sangjaru, founded in Seoul, skillfully integrates authentic Korean instruments such as the “janggu,” an hourglass drum, and the “ajaeng,” a bowed zither, with modern styles like funk, rock, and gypsy swing. Sangjaru’s name reflects their mission. “Sangja,” or box, signifies tradition, while “Jaru,” or sack, represents adaptability and originality. Each performance offers a fresh take on Korean folk heritage, and engages audiences without fail.
We’re so excited to celebrate the Lunar New Year on our first U.S. tour and to make our New York City debut at Flushing Town Hall. It’s a special honor to share Korean music and culture with new audiences”
