Kaatsbaan Cultural Park Announces Ballet Intensive Auditions for 2025

Kaatsbaan Cultural Park is excited to announce auditions for the Kaatsbaan Ballet Intensive (KBI), scheduled to take place from June 23 to August 16, 2025. This prestigious program aims to provide young dancers with exceptional training opportunities alongside renowned international dance artists. The KBI is designed for young dancers aged 13 to 18, who possess at least two years of pointe work experience. Under the guidance of KBI Artistic Director Paloma Herrera and esteemed faculty members, including Kaatsbaan co-founders Martine van Hamel and Kevin McKenzie, students will engage in daily ballet technique classes and refine their skills in classical solos and corps de ballet repertoire. Additionally, participants will benefit from coaching sessions with distinguished Guest Artists during each two-week session.

Lauren Anderson

Lauren Anderson, the first African-American principal dancer at Houston Ballet, is celebrated for her dynamic performances and contributions to the arts. After a successful career performing leading roles, she has transitioned into education, where she conducts master classes and lectures. Anderson will engage with students during the third session, offering invaluable mentorship. 

Stella Abrera

Stella Abrera, the current Artistic Director of the American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, has had a storied career as a principal dancer with ABT. Known for her captivating performances in iconic roles such as Princess Aurora and Giselle, she will share her insights and coaching during the first session of the intensive.

Leanne Benjamin

Leanne Benjamin, a former principal dancer with the Royal Ballet, has dedicated her post-retirement career to nurturing emerging talent. With her extensive experience and accolades, including the OBE and the De Valois Award, she will inspire students during the second session, sharing her vast knowledge of ballet technique and artistry.

Megan Fairchild

Megan Fairchild, a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, is known for her versatility in both classical and contemporary works. In addition to her performance career, she is also an author and educator. Fairchild will be a guest during the fourth session, where she will provide guidance on both technical skills and mental health strategies for aspiring dancers.

Auditions will be conducted in January 2025, offering two options for aspiring dancers: in-person auditions and video submissions. In-person auditions are scheduled for January 17 and 18 at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York City and January 19 at Kaatsbaan Cultural Park. Video submissions will be accepted through March 8, 2025.

For collegiate dancers aged 18 to 25, Kaatsbaan offers a specialized one-week intensive from June 16-21, 2025. This program focuses on refining ballet technique and repertoire while also exploring contemporary choreography through specialized classes and lectures.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend one or multiple two-week sessions, with options for both residential and day student accommodations. The KBI tuition includes daily classes with world-renowned faculty, an end-of-session showcase, and a limited-edition leotard or shorts from the Chameleon by April Giangeruso Kaatsbaan collection. Housing and meal plans are also provided, ensuring a comprehensive experience for all attendees.
