NYC-based singer-songwriter Ren Genevieve explores living unapologetically in her heartfelt single “gods to ground,” set to release on all streaming platforms on January 16.

“gods to ground,” the second single from her upcoming debut EP tongue tied, invites listeners to fully immerse themselves in the song through its addicting beat and emotional, moving lyrics. When producing this single, the artist said that she created the track first, then the lyrics – an approach that went beyond her comfort zone. Despite this, the lyrics stand on their own, unapologetically.
“This song was a project I wrote for a class assignment, and the track felt really bold, so the lyrics reflect that,” Genevieve said. “There’s something freeing and fun about stepping into your own power, and that’s what this song captures for me.”
The singer’s diary-like writing style allows for listeners to relate on a deeper level to the singer’s songs, and “gods to ground” is no exception. Her lead single from her EP, “forts,” listens a similar writing style, with lyrics like “I didn’t cherish that look in your eyes, Take me back to all those simpler days.” Genevieve’s inviting and vulnerable lyrics invites listeners to find their piece in their own stories and experiences, making her music universally relatable.
Genevieve, who spent her early life in New York, Michigan and Bermuda, is heavily inspired by her multifaceted upbringing in her music writing. “tongue tied” hopes to explore the intricacies of her life and become more vulnerable to her audience.
“gods to ground” is now available on all streaming platforms. For more information on Ren Genevieve, visit her Instagram.
