NIVA Launches Research Study for Independent Live Entertainment Venues

The National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) recently launched “The State of Live,” the first-ever national economic research study of the independent live entertainment sector.

NIVA Research Study

The National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) is a national trade association that represents thousands of live entertainment venues, festivals, promoters, and more. NIVA aims to preserve the rich ecosystem of live entertainment, and their new study is a huge step forward.

NIVA’s groundbreaking study will examine the economic and operational challenges of independent venues, promoters, performing arts centers, and festivals across the United States. NIVA is urging all of these venues, regardless of their size, tax status, or location, to take part in a survey launched on January 7th.

Independent stages serve as cultural hubs and are very beloved in many communities. They generate employment, drive tourism, and contribute to tax revenues. Despite their popularity, they still face many challenges, such as rising operational costs and increasing competition from mega corporations. This study aims to provide valuable insights to strengthen the public opinion of these vital spaces and ensure they get the recognition and support that they need to thrive.

The NIVA research study will produce a comprehensive report detailing the economic impact of the independent live entertainment sector, along with state-specific profiles and select regional summaries highlighting local contributions. The collected data is set to be released on June 23, 2025.

NIVA urges all independent live stages to participate in the survey by February 18.
