Binghamton Philharmonic Presents Ensemble Intermezzo on Jan. 12

The Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra is will host Ensemble Intermezzo for the second concert of the 2024-2025 Garufi Law P.C. Phelps Mansion Museum Series, on Sunday, January 12.

The Binghamton Philharmonic is the Southern Tier’s largest and longest-serving professional symphony orchestra. Founded by cellist/conductor Fritz Wallenberg and his wife, violinist Marianne Wallenberg, in 1955 as the Binghamton Symphony and Choral Society, the BP performs live, full-scale orchestral works.

Fritz Wallenberg led the organization artistically until 1976, when he was succeeded as Music Director by David Loebel. From 1982 to 2003, John Covelli was Music Director of the Binghamton Symphony, and, from 2003 to 2016, José-Luis Novo served as Music Director of the Binghamton Philharmonic. Maestro Daniel Hege became Principal Guest Conductor in 2016 and was appointed Music Director in 2018. In 2024, the Binghamton Philharmonic was awarded the American Prize for Orchestral Performance, which recognized the ensemble’s artistic excellence among American professional symphony orchestras.

Ensemble Intermezzo – Cathryn Jones, oboe; Ruth Berry, cello; and John Colonna, piano – was inspired by Leonard Bernstein’s Young People’s Concerts to share the experience of great music with all people. The trio’s versatile chamber music programs transcend stylistic categories as Jones, Berry, and Colonna bring great music in all its infinite variety – from classical to folk to jazz to spirituals – to diverse audiences.

Join the BPO for a soulful and enlivening afternoon of great music across genres performed by Ensemble Intermezzo in the intimate setting of the Phelps Mansion Museum.

Tickets for Ensemble Intermezzo at the Binghamton Philharmonic are $28 general admission. A cash bar will be provided by the Phelps Mansion Museum. For more information and for tickets, contact the Binghamton Philharmonic Box Office at 607-723-3931 or visit binghamtonphilharmonic.org.
