The Roots mentioned from the stage of their Roots Picnic festival in Philadelphia that they will bring the festival to New York City, and the announcement was made official soon after.
Roots Picnic New York will take place Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2 in Bryant Park in New York City.
The first night headliners are D’Angelo and John Mayer, both backed by the Roots. Also scheduled for Oct. 1 are the X Ambassadors, Kevin Gates and DJ Questlove, among others.
The second night, dubbed “A Love Letter to New York,” features the Wu-Tang Clan, David Byrne and Nile Rodgers, all backed by the Roots. Trombone Shorty, Swizz Beatz, Deerhoof and EPMD are also included. While Will Smith made a special appearance at the Roots Picnic this past weekend in Philadelphia, his former musical partner, DJ Jazzy Jeff is on the lineup for Oct. 2. The second night also features Black Thought’s Live Mixtape with Styles P, Freddie Gibbs, Royce Da 5’9 and J.Period.
Tickets for Roots Picnic New York go on sale this Friday, June 10 at 10 a.m. A two-day pass will run $198 with single day passes available for $99.
