Sorry, East Coast phans — “Cactus” is heading to the west this winter, and rightly so.
Days after Phish wraps up three nights in Riviera Maya, bassist Mike Gordon will kick off a 12-date tour at Emo’s in Austin on Jan. 22, followed by two more stops in Texas before hitting the road for shows in Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington and Colorado. A limited number of tickets are available before Oct. 29; tickets go on sale to the public beginning Oct. 30 at 5 p.m.
While Gordon melted faces aplenty with his signature bass bombs during his solo run last June, including dates in Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, Port Chester and Philadelphia, and seven sets at Magnaball in Watkins Glen with Phish in July, we can’t blame the fan-friendly bassist for reserving some love for the Left Coast.
Still touring in support of 2014’s Overstep, which features the popular “Yarmouth Road,” Gordon and his four-member outfit of Scott Murawski (guitarist), Craig Myers (percussion/n’goni/programmer), Robert Walter (organ/synth-master) and John Morgan Kimock (drums) spare no expense to jam out its 11 tracks and then some to create a share-in-the-groove-boogie-on live environment.
So, if you don’t get enough Gordon after the New Year’s Eve run at Madison Square Garden, or if you aren’t one of the lucky-yous heading to Mexico, then flee the Northeast and thaw out with Cactus-and-the-gang in the Wild West.
In the meantime, treat yourself to a funky feel-good look back at Gordon’s June 19 performance at The Egg:
