Cousin Earth to Release ‘Human Music’

Brooklyn’s Cousin Earth has been working on their first full length studio album, Human Music. The album is due in early 2018.

Cousin Earth, a NYS Music 87/90 band, has been busy finding their way in the local jam scene and festival circuit, and has found a strong following as part of the “jam renaissance” in Brooklyn. The band, who released a self-titled seven track EP back in 2015, is set to release their first full length album, Human Music, in early 2018.

Human Music will feature 10 new original tracks spanning many genres with the concept being a showcase of the music that humanity listens to. The album artwork, designed by Florida illustrator Dean Arscott, who also designed the artwork for two of Dopapod’s albums, features the band as extraterrestrial beings wearing human costumes.

Cousin Earth, formed in 2013, is a ukelele-led jamband that covers a multitude of styles from rock to funk to ragtime to EDM. The five-piece band has played over 200 shows since their inception, including many regional Northeast festivals. They can be seen tomorrow night at Maxwell’s Tavern in Hoboken, supporting Sylvana Joyce and the Moment. They will also be a part of the 7th Annual Wintercourse at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, which also features Space Carnival, Teddy Midnight and Bella’s Bartok, on Jan. 20.

NYS Music launched its 87/90 campaign in May of this year. The purpose is to highlight New York State grown up-and-coming bands. Currently, nine bands from across New York are part of the 87/90 roster. The name refers to the interstate highways most bands utilize while touring throughout the state. Besides Cousin Earth, other bands on the roster include: Gowanus, Let’s Be Leonard, Boogie Low, Folkfaces, Space Carnival, Intrepid Travelers and Formula 5.
