Ticketmaster Class Action Settlement Coming Soon… But There’s a Catch

Did you purchase tickets through Ticketmaster’s website between October 1999 and February 2013? If so, you and 50 million others may be eligible to collect as part of a $386 million settlement over heightened processing and shipping fees charged by Ticketmaster during this period.

Curt Schlesinger et al. v. Ticketmaster, a class action lawsuit by five Ticketmaster customers claiming processing and expedited delivery fees for UPS shipments were excessive and deceptive, was filed in 2003. Details of the settlement were just released.

According to the claims administrator’s website, “Beginning on or around April 25, 2016, and ending on or around June 18, 2016, Class Members in the Schlesinger v. Ticketmaster Class Action Settlement will be sent via email a notice regarding Discount and Ticket Codes.” And there’s the catch. In order for class members to cash in on the settlement, you must purchase tickets to a future event through Ticketmaster.

The email will allow users access to discount codes worth $2.25 per transaction with a limit of 17. If, during the class period, the user also requested expedited shipping through UPS, an additional discount of $5.00 will be applied to a UPS ticket shipment. These two discount codes can be applied to a single purchase. These codes are redeemable through June 18, 2020.

Additionally, discount codes are being issued for free tickets, beginning one year from this June 18, if less than $10.5 million per year in discounts have been redeemed.

Ticketmaster has established a website dedicated to code redemption. In the meantime, keep an eye on your inbox for that email from the Schlesinger v. Ticketmaster Settlement Administrator.
