On Thanksgiving 1976, The Band threw a farewell celebration at San Francisco’s Winterland, serving a full Thanksgiving dinner and playing a concert with a star-studded list of guests with whom they had played over the years. The famed concert was made into a movie documentary directed by Martin Scorcese.

The THE BAND Band will play their own celebration of the 40th Anniversary of this event on Oct. 22 at the Boulton Center for the Performing Arts in Bay Shore. Joining them for this show will be the TTBB horns.

The THE BAND Band, formed in 2007, has shared the stage with Richie Havens, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Aztec Two Step and Marshall Crenshaw, among others. Individual members have performed with former members of The Band, Rick Danko, and Levon Helm. They have become a critically acclaimed tribute act. From the press release:

George Walsh of WCWP Radio says, “The THE BAND Band really nails it. Their shows recapture the incredible vibe that was unique to The Band.” And Rex Fowler of famed folk-rock duo Aztec Two-Step states, “Sadly we’ll never see or hear The Band perform live again, but if you want a close second and want to be transformed by the magic and spirit of The Band’s music…The THE BAND Band…delivers BIG TIME”.

The 40th anniversary celebration begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40.
