‘The Last Waltz 40 Tour’ Dances into the Palace Tonight, Garth Hudson to Join

The hardest working man in rock ‘n roll has put together an all-star cast to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Band’s farewell concert from 1976.

Govt Mule leader and Allman Brothers Band guitarist, Warren Haynes brings the tour to Albany tonight with a special guest added to the bill. Original Band keyboardist Garth Hudson will perform tonight alongside Haynes, Don Was, John Medeski, Michael McDonald, Jamey Johnson and Terence Higgins. Hudson will also perform at the tour finale in Washington, D.C. Feb. 4.

Haynes and Was put together a tribute show last April in New Orleans using many of these same musicians. The success of that show is what led to the national tour. The addition of Hudson to the tribute was announced Wednesday.

The landmark concert, recorded at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom on Thanksgiving night in 1976, celebrated its 40th anniversary last year and tribute has been paid many times over, including the Salt City Waltz in Syracuse this past Thanksgiving. The movie and album documenting the show, were both released in 1978. Martin Scorcese’s production has often been cited as the one of the best music documentaries ever produced.

Tickets for the 8 p.m. show at Albany’s Palace Theatre are still available.
