Huntertones to Bring the Funk to Music Haven

Brooklyn’s brassy Huntertones will be making their Music Haven debut on Thursday, July 25 at 7 p.m. in Schenectady’s Central Park. The band formed at Ohio State University in Columbus and hosted their first shows at a house on Hunter Avenue.

Earlier this year, trumpeter/sousaphonist Jon Lampley, a touring member of O.A.R. who also plays in Jon Batiste’s Stay Human, told jazz magazine Downbeat that, “We benefited from developing in Ohio around
indie rock and hip-hop bands. That allowed us to come together as different personalities. We’ve become very comfortable as a band, where you might hear a little Snarky Puppy, or Led Zeppelin, or Dirty Dozen Brass Band, or even gospel music or swinging jazz.”

Now based in New York, Huntertones are known for the ability, in addition to covering a wide range of genres, to shift from a dynamic six-piece ensemble to an unconventional trio featuring saxophone,
sousaphone and beat-boxing (from trombonist and fellow marching band vet Chris Ott).

Huntertones offer a high energy, horn-driven sound that fuses adventurous genre-bending originals and unconventional covers with inspired improvisation, melding jazz, funk, hip-hop, rock and soul.

A variety of food and beverages will be available for purchase at all shows. Mike’s Hotdogs will be on hand with a selection of classic NYC-style street fare. Ben & Jerry’s will also scoop premium ice cream at each
show.

Wine and local craft beverages from Wolf Hollow Brewing Company and Nine Pin Cider are available throughout the season.
