The CEO of Bandcamp, Ethan Diamond, recently announced that 100% of proceeds from the company’s sales this Friday Feb. 3, will go to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
According to SPIN, Diamond wrote in his statement that Donald Trump’s inauguration “is not simply immoral, it violates the very spirit and foundation of America.”
Further, Diamond explained that his parents immigrated from Russia and Lithuania as teenagers, and that his family shares a similar story to that of many Americans, as we are a “nation of immigrants.” The company’s decision to donate to ACLU tomorrow is in support of their efforts to combat Trump’s discriminatory and unconstitutional actions.
As an additional act of solidarity for the immigrants and refugees from the seven banned countries, Bandcamp also compiled a list of albums by the artists from the affected countries, which can be found at the bottom of Diamond’s public statement.
