Peekskill Brewery Kicks Off Paramount Takeover Series with The Big Takeover on April 19

In cooperation with fellow local businesses, the Peekskill Brewery kicks off a three-weekend takeover of the Paramount Theatre in Peekskill in April and May to showcase local and regional talent while supporting the nearly 90-year old theatre.

The Big Takeover launches the series on Friday April 19 along with special guest The Brighton Beat. Though natives of the Hudson Valley, The Big Takeover creates their own music rooted in reggae, blending in elements of rock, ska, and pop. Since their formation in 2007, they have built a roster of notable names they’ve opened for including The Wailers, Jefferson Starship, Ryan Montbleau, and Pete Seeger among others. After their show this week at the Paramount, The Big Takeover will be gearing up for a busy festival season appearing at Flyday, Strangecreek, Clearwater, and Mountain Jam and a number of summer shows throughout the northeast.

Joining The Big Takeover to open the night is The Brighton Beat, a familiar name in Peekskill. The 20+ member brass/funk/Afrobeat puts on a unique show, blending the talent and character of its diverse membership often with a heavy dose of improv.

Doors and lobby bar open at 6 p.m. with music starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance from the Peekskill Brewery’s website and $20 at the door.

Upcoming shows in the Peekskill Brewery Takeover series include:

April 26 – Flux Capacitor w/s/g Shwizz
April 27 – Box of Rain w/s/g Ronald Reggae
May 3 – Hayley Jane and the Primates w/s/g Joanna Teters
May 4 – Funky Dawgz Brass Band

Stay tuned to NYS Music for updates and other goodies from these shows.
